Cristina Martins, com o nome artístico de Lapinhas, nasceu em Cascais no ano de 1975.
O percurso artístico desta artista constrói-se a partir de uma formação sólida e de uma inquietação permanente pelo conhecimento e pela experimentação. Iniciou os seus estudos na Escola Superior de Belas Artes das Caldas da Rainha em 1993, onde frequentou o curso de Pintura e Escultura, desenvolvendo desde cedo uma relação estreita entre a prática plástica e a investigação formal.
Cristina Martins, with the artistic name Lapinhas, was born in Cascais in 1975.
The artistic journey of this artist is built upon a solid background and a permanent drive for knowledge and experimentation. She began her studies at the School of Arts and Design Caldas da Rainha in 1993, where she attended the Painting and Sculpture course, developing from an early age a close relationship between plastic practice and formal research.
O seu trabalho tem sido apresentado em diversas exposições e reconhecido em concursos de ilustração, com seleções em iniciativas como o FIIN, entre outras, evidenciando a consistência e versatilidade da sua linguagem artística. Paralelamente, desenvolve atividade profissional como ilustradora e decoradora de interiores, cruzando arte, narrativa e espaço habitado.
Entre o real e o insólito, o seu percurso é marcado por experiências que alimentam a dimensão narrativa da sua obra — como o episódio improvável de ter sido perseguida por um hipopótamo em plena cidade, fora do contexto africano — lembrando que, na sua prática, o inesperado e o poético caminham frequentemente lado a lado.
Her work has been presented in various exhibitions and recognized in illustration contests, with selections in initiatives such as FIIN, among others, demonstrating the consistency and versatility of her artistic language. At the same time, she works professionally as an illustrator and interior decorator, crossing art, narrative, and inhabited space.
Between the real and the unusual, her path is marked by experiences that feed the narrative dimension of her work — such as the unlikely episode of being chased by a hippopotamus in the middle of a city, outside an African context — reminding us that, in her practice, the unexpected and the poetic often walk hand in hand.
